The Texas Revolution


  • December 1835 the Texans capture the town of San Antonio. In February 1836 General Santa Anna arrives with several thousand Mexican troops.

  • Approximately 189 rebels (Tejanos, Texans and slaves) barricade themselves inside an old Spanish fort called "The Alamo".

  • The Mexican army seiges the Alamo and eventually attack it killing almost everyone inside. "Remember the Alamo" becomes the battle cry for the Texans.

  • Also in 1836 some 400 Texans are captured by Santa Anna and executed. This glavanizes the Texans efforts.

  • On April 21, 1836, Sam Houston led a small army of Texans (around 900) in a suprise attack on Santa Anna's army incamped at San Jacinto. They routed the Mexicans and capture Santa Anna. In exchange for his life, Santa Anna signs a treaty with Texas giving Texas it's independence.
